  Out of the Blue Design Studio

Out of the Blue Design Studio was founded in 2000 by Alex Matheson, a long time collector of Art Glass and manufacturer of commercial locks and decorative hardware. The concept of using Studio Art Glass with decorative hardware came as a result of a personal home renovation project Alex was doing on a bathroom. After making a pair of shower door knobs utilizing Art Glass for the glass shower door and installing them, he got many compliments and questions about "where did you get them". After hearing this over and over he decided to call on his manufacturing background and started to make up sets of shower door knobs and showed them around to retailers. The reception to the product was overwhelming and soon Alex realized that he needed to add more designs and other decorative hardware products. Calling on many connections in the Art Glass world and searching out new ones to make new designs allowed the design choices to blossom. Doorknobs came next and then naturally cabinet knobs. Shower door pulls were also developed as were a line of LED lit front door handles. The company has done many national kitchen and bath shows and has been featured on four different HGTV shows over the past decade. Many Trade and design magazine publications have featured the line with rave reviews. Out of the Blue Design is very proud of what they do and have become the world leader in Art Glass decorative hardware.

Alex Matheson - Founder & Owner

Alex grew up in a manufacturing background as his father owned and operated an ultra high precision machine shop that machined intricate guidance system components for all of  NASA's  space program endeavors starting in the 1960's. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire's Business School, he went to work with his father in a new company he bought manufacturing commercial locks and hardware. Taking the accumulated manufacturing knowledge he acquired after 25 years, he moved to Florida to start something new and different. Having been an avid Art Glass collector since college days he had a lot of contacts in the Studio Art Glass world. Putting his love for glass art and his knowledge of manufacturing decorative hardware together he created the first products of his newly formed company; Out of the Blue Design Studio. Growing very rapidly as new products have been developed and new designs added, Out of the Blue Design Studio has become the world leader in Art Glass decorative hardware.
